Change of plans
Today my partner and I began filming our Powerade commercial. We began our day of filming by heading down to the track to take advantage of the good weather however, we soon realized that we forgot to bring a soccer ball. This made us incapable of filming the action sequences in our commercial. Regardless of this misfortune we quickly decided to film the opening scenes of our commercial instead.
The first scene of the film we recorded was my partner walking together. We filmed this scene first because we thought it would be the easiest shot to film and since it opened the commercial we believed that this would allow us to see a general feeling that the ad would convey. While this shot seemed easy it did require multiple retakes because the bottom of the staircase was occupied by other students. This resulted in my having to be very careful when filming the actor walking down the stairs to avoid the presence of unwanted persons. When the shot was recorded successfully after multiple attempts the result was satisfying as the movement of the camera was very fluid.
After we determined that the first scene's final shot was adequate we began attempting to film our second shot in which the character rounds a corner and leaves the sight of the camera, however once again the occupants of the bottom of the stairs hindered our ability to do so. Because of this my partner and I decided to switch to film in a more quiet location. This turned out to be the best decision we could have made as the transition from the appearance of the character to the display of the field is excellent and displays the motive of the ad. The filming of this shot also worked out well with it only requiring a few takes to get a clean shot. The only issue that the scene appeared to have was a weakness in providing a transition into the next scene. This issue was quickly disregarded though as my groupmate and I realized that the transition from the first to the second half of the ad would look better as a jumpcut.
In totality, this day of filming was trying and filled with tribulation but it was most likely for the better, and the progress made today inspired my group to march forwards. The day also thought our group of the issues with prop preparedness. To resolve this issue in the future my group must be more communicative before filming days to communicate which props need to be brought to the location. Despite these struggles, my group also succeeded heavily in some areas. For example, when presented with the issue of lack of props and the presence of classmates at the bottom of the stairs we remain calm and quickly solved the issue at hand. This action-filled day has left me excited and prepared for the next day of filming.
