Project Blog

The conclusion of this project marks the end of my second media studies production and film. The creation of this project was much more detailed then that of my commercial project however, the creation of this film was less difficult as the struggles faced the previous project prepared me for the difficulties faced in the recent filming. This project not only showed my increase in ability but also displayed my faults when producing. The most obvious issue I faced in this project was the lack of quality control, this came from my inability to grade the quality of takes while on set. This inevitably caused me to have to reshoot some scenes from the video multiple times. I also struggled with maintaining the same desired end result throughout the production process which made some patches of filming more difficult then others. The most important thing I gained from this music video was a greater understanding how impactful the introduction of a new groupmate can instantly change the dyn

Production Blog: Editing

Image
Today I began the editing process for my music video after concluding my days of filming and preparation. While this day of editing was very exciting it was primarily relieving as the previous issues that led up to this moment made the day of editing a checkpoint that marked the end of production errors and prop misplacement. The first step I took in the editing process was selecting the desired clips and placing them into the desired order, this was the simplest section of the editing process as it always is. Once I completed this step I viewed the raw unedited version of the music video, this viewing while cringe inducing was very relieving as similarly to the start of the editing process the first viewing marked the first signs of a quality production.      Immediately after viewing the raw compilation of clips I watched the unedited version two more times while recording the areas that where in need of trimming. After this I began to trim the clips according to the notes I t

Production Blog: Corrections

After a successful day of filming my groupmates and I began to review the footage we filmed the day prior. This process took us around thirty minutes as we shuffled through all of our footage and finally decided upon which footage we would use in the editing process. After this I finalized the order of the our music video and which scenes should be included. Overall this was not very difficult as only a few scenes being where removed.     However, this process revealed a major flaw in our production process which was two improperly shot scenes. These missing scenes where located in the section of the music video where the friend of the main character was knocked unconscious. At first this issue seemed minor however, as I continued to re-watch the video I realized it did not meet the expected standards. Shortly after I decided that the best decision was to to reshoot the scenes that where poorly filmed. To do this I quickly reached out to all of the actors that partook in the

Production Blog: Filming

I began filming my project on the morning of December fourth with the hopes of concluding the filming process on the same day. The first thing I did was ensure that all of my actors understood the task ahead of them and the changes made to the storyboard where understood. Then I took inventory of the props we have available and quickly ran to CVS to grab a few chip bags to make the hang out session more realistic. Shortly after this I prepared the set by placing the props in their desired location and prepared the camera.      Once this was all done and the production process was underway, the filming of the first few scenes went according to plan and things where looking good. With the only issues we faced being the occasional flow of people in and out of the clubhouse in which we where filming. This issue however was bot very impactful as we made sure to record in areas that do not display the main walkway hiding club goers from sight. After filming the first two scenes my gro

Production Blog: Change In Cast

Before I began filming my project I had to make a big decision as one of the actors in the project was unable to show for the filming. This complete change in direction temporarily threw my plans for formulating my music video in a loop as the lack of a main character would make the filming of my commercial impossible. I decided that the best way to combat this issue would be to replace the missing character with a new actor who could fill the role somewhat. This plan seemed flawless at first with all of the production issues solved. However, this change also revealed to my group the flaws in our storyboard which inspired us to make some major alterations to the story while maintaining the original plot.     First I decided that the assailant in the video should be present as a side character and friend throughout the first half of the music video. This was done so that I could introduce the character more effectively establish the motive for the assailant and develop the charac
