Commercial Reflection

How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social             groups or issues?

My project maintained the standard of similar productions within the scope of development. This is most noticeable in our use of media shots on the actions of the actor. My use of camera movements was also like productions as we often utilized tracking shots whether on the ball, the product, or the athlete. We strayed away from basic conventions however in my usage of only non-diegetic sound.  This commercial was produced to display a product that will represent and provide resistance to help athletes and those striving to be athletes make it in the world of sports. This commercial shows this group that there is a product perfect for them and their desires.

How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real  media text?

My project would be distributed during commercial breaks in sporting events on weekend matches. The choice to distribute the commercial during the weekend would better connect with children’s viewers as they are more likely to be watching television on weekends rather than nighttime matches in the week. The choice to promote towards children is effective because children are likely to ask their parents for a product if they view it as connected with skilled athletes. The commercial would also be promoted in the sports category of YouTube videos. This is because a large quantity of YouTube video watchers are interested in improving at the sport they are viewing. Because of the product's increase in sporting ability, there is potential for the formation of long-term bonds with customers.

3.                          How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

At the beginning of this project, I felt that my skills were lackluster and that they were in real need of development. I also was really ineffective at planning ahead and supplying my group with the props necessary. However, on the second day of filming my skills already felt more fine-tuned not only in the way I felt when panning and tilting the camera but also in my ability to envision the outcome of a take before it was taken. I went through this same process when editing as on the first day of editing I had to constantly seek references to accomplish things I would imagine to be easy; but on the next day of editing, I much better and things I had never noticed began revealing themselves because I took a more relaxed approach to edit.

How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware, and online – in this project?

In the creation of this commercial, we took advantage of the iPhone’s ability to automatically shift focus on the subject throughout the commercial making it more dynamic. We also used platforms such as Gmail to share media we may potentially use in our project. The main use of technology in our project was the use of iMovie this editing software was a simple software that would not be too challenging for beginner editors. This allowed us to achieve more easily what we desired throughout the entire creative process.
