Time and Order

Today I began the process of determining which shots will be included in the final product and what order they would fit into the puzzle of creating a film. I decided to edit this project on the movie because I felt that using familiar software would allow me to curate the best film I could while I gain a better understanding of the more technical programs for my future projects. I also decided to choose this program because it would let my group easily import the takes we recorded due to the transferability between all of our recording devices. I began this process by ordering the takes based on their desired chronological order and working from there.

Once I compiled the clips in this fashion I started to examine the clips and remove those that clearly were not usable in the final product. This included removing worse versions of retakes and takes that did not align with the view of the commercial I wished to present. This process even involved removing some scenes entirely. The most prominent example of this was removing a scene in which the actor would stroll across the front of the camera walking towards the soccer field. We decided to remove this because it added little value to the commercial and interrupted its pacing. This empty space was filled with more fast-paced dribble and skill moves that make the commercial seem more athletic-focused.

Once I finally decided which takes should make the final cut and what order they should be placed I began placing them in the video timeline. Once I placed all of the clips in the desired order I muted most of them planning to do the audio editing and mixing in the next editing session. Shortly after this began the challenge of meeting the time requirement. The first step of this task was shortening some of the clips to make the commercial more efficient in displaying its core purpose and make it seem faster-paced. Once I finished shortening the clips I decided to increased the speed of some of my other shots, this made the skill moves appear more impressive, fluid, and faster-paced.

The last thing that decided to do in this editing session was edit in a motion logo of the Powerade logo. This was the most difficult task of the editing that faced. This is because editing the motion logo required me to utilize the greenscreen tool to remove the background and place the video track over the outro. This was difficult because I struggled using the tool as I had never done it before however after many attempts I finally gained an understanding of the tool and I was extremely happy with the results. In totality today was a very productive day and I am one step closer to presenting my final project.
