Another was the co-producers, one was the editor, one was director of photography, one was the writer, one was the executive producers, and the last one was the title of the movie.
What connotations do the images carry?
The images carry a negative connotation because the images are of someone bleeding and holding a razor blade. Also, they are writing in a diary it seems and they're crossing out young people's faces. This indicates that something bad is happening.
How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The mystery genre is reinforced because they use explicit imagery of mysterious actions but we don't know who is behind it. So, this reinforces that its a mystery movie because its very common amongst mystery movies to show the villain's actions but not the villain themselves.
What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
They use a mix of slow and fast-paced background music with fade edits to appeal to those who watch mystery films. The target audience would immediately know that the movie is going to be mystery related because typically that's the sound that is used in mystery movies. The fade edits signify that something is wrong and often spark feelings of suspense. Mystery movies often use suspense because the whole idea of a mystery is that you don't know what is going to happen.
