Production Blog: Filming
Today my group began filming our grand production. My objective today was for my group to complete the introductory and establishing shot of my film along with all other scenes filmed in the garage location. The filming process today was successful however the beginning was very difficult due to late arrivals. At the beginning of the filming hours the lead villain of my film was yet to show up and took around thirty minutes for him to arrive on the set. Then after our actor arrived we realized that the weather was not very nice and appeared as if it was going to rain. At the sight of this my group rushed outside and nabbed our establishing shot to capture the establishing shot of my film. Next we recorded the take of the car entering the premises to begin the film. Upon our first take of this shot we captured the car entering quite well however, there was a pedestrian in the way that deteriorated the feelings of the shot. After this we proceeded to rerecord the car entering a total of five times. On our final attempt we captured that desired essence with fluent camera movement combined with an adequate amount of cars in the background. Next we moved up to the higher levels of the garage where there would be less of a flow of people then on the first floor. The first step of filming this shot was determining the speed of the cars entry into the the shot. This took multiple attempts as the approach of the vehicle was hard to determine as the first few approach's where way to slow. After a long period of failure we decided to film a POV from the inside of the car to diversify the nature of the shots angles and vibe of the film. This only took us two takes and the final result was clean and had the perfect pace. Next we decided to film the encounter of our main character and the unknown character. We did this shot by following the main character into the garage and panning to the right. Due to this shot covering a wide range of setting we had our extra actor watch out for us to alert us when there was no possibility of our shot being interrupted. This went well and our shot was not interrupted throughout the entirety of our filming. In totality this was a successful first day of filming in which we succeeded in filming an adequate amount. This session makes me very optimistic for future filming sessions and I'm grateful for the group members I have selected.
